EASTBROOK – A public hearing regarding a Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife proposal to stock brown trout in Molasses Pond in Eastbrook will be held August 28, 7 p.m., in the Eastbrook Municipal Building. Fisheries biologists from Region C headquarters in Machias will conduct the hearing, which will provide information and allow public comment on the proposal. If the proposal is approved, brown trout will be stocked in Molasses Pond this fall and will provide legal fishing on Jan. 1.

Molasses Pond is rumored to contain brown trout, but biologists say electro-fishing surveys have produced no evidence of the fish. Stockings of landlocked salmon, currently inhabiting the pond, will continue.
