Hayden perseveres at Unity> Skowhegan man comes back from crash, takes charger feature

UNITY – Mitch Hayden of Skowhegan shook off a mid-race accident and came from the rear of the field to win the NAPA Auto Parts 50-lap Charger feature Saturday night.

Hayden, in his Variety Drug/DRE Engines Camaro, led for the first 25 laps of the NAPA feature until he collided with Robert Green of Vassalboro on lap 28. A collision that also knocked off Oakland’s Bruce Pooler.

Hayden later returned and powered his way past Mike Hodgkins of Jefferson and Travis Benjamin of Belfast for the win.

Steve Nelson of Albion collected a win in the Late Model Pro-Stock division.

Nelson led all the way in his H.L. Keay Chevrolet to further his lead in the Late Model Pro-Stock point standings.

Taylor’s win puts him back on top

At Oxford Plains Speedway, it took only one week for Farmington’s Jeff Taylor to return to the top of the Pro-Stock point standings.

Taylor battled former champion Tracy Gordon for Friday night’s victory in the Pro-Stock division.

With Gordon driving a borrowed racer, Taylor knew he had a good chance to regain his top spot and a chance at a record setting fourth straight title.

Cunningham drags to Oxford win

At Oxford Plains Dragway, Paul Cunningham drove his Chevy Nova to the top spot for the first time as he outlasted Leslie Baribeault for the Street Eliminator win.

His run of 9.951 seconds translated into a 72.37 mile per hour pass.

Thibeau takes pro-stock flag

At Caribou Speedway, Kirk Thibeau of Fort Fairfield finished ahead of Houlton’s Andy Marino in the Pro-stock feature race on Championship Sunday.

In another track favorite, James Picard of Sinclair defeated Martin McCooey of Grand Falls, New Brunswick in the “Race your neighbor” race.

Boudreau wins at Winterport

At Winterport Dragway, it was a full day of racing as the track featured competition in nine racing classifications Sunday afternoon.

Justin Boudreau of Holden won the Top Sportsman race and Eugen Newton Jr., of Westwook, Mass., notched a victory in the Modified ET class.
