Local country band releases debut album

BANGOR — The local country band, Cactus Moon, has released a new album, “Count Your Blessings.” Singer-songwriter Doug Scovil of Bangor, who performs all the hit songs on the band’s first album release, is also band leader.

Scovil is a veteran in the music business and started by winning state and regional vocal competitions and talent contests at a young age. He also has done karaoke at area night clubs. He has recorded in Nashville and at BCI Studios in Brewer.

Scovil has written enough material for the next three albums and intends to record an album every year, following “Blessings,” which includes 10 of his songs.

The title song of the album is “Count Your Blessings,” and the melody, “Sweet Mylissa,” a personal tribute to 15-year-old Mylyssa Moors, the younger sister of Scovil’s best friend, Lonnie Moors. Mylyssa was killed in a car crash in 1993.

Producers are Cary Comer and Sid Oakes. Co-producer is Scovil.

Scovill and his band will perform during Paul Bunyan Days at Paul Bunyan park on Friday, Sept. 6, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. For information, call Scovil at 945-5290 or Sid Oakes at BCI Studios at 989-9800.
