BANGOR — The Maine Department of Transportation has announced that Washington Street from Exchange Street to Oak Street has been opened, and the detour that was in effect for four months is closed.

Construction work on the Penobscot River Bridge project will continue on the Brewer side of the river, said H.E. Sargent Inc. and DOT spokesmen.
