The article that was on the front page of your paper [Aug. 20] and Sept. 23’s mean-spirited editorial did not tell the story of Marshall Frankel and what he has accomplished and what he has endured. Everyone should know about the unsigned letters being circulated throughout the city.
The letters were full of innuendoes and outright lies about Marshall and were an attack on his motives. Late-night telephone calls threatened him bodily harm and impinged upon his personal religious beliefs. All of these actions have to be condemned.
Bangor has always been a city of cliques but the outright hatred directed toward a person who has given freely of his time, talent and his money is totally unacceptable and should be denounced by all of us. Marshall’s biggest problem is that he is human and as such he can err. He may have stood by people not worthy of his trust and he may have espoused unworthy causes but those are not reasons to make him a pariah.
Thank you, Marshall Frankel. Bangor is a better place for us all because of you. Harriet Tilley Bangor
