Burnes powers Brewer by MDI

MOUNT DESERT – Senior halfback Seth Burnes rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns to lead Brewer to a 33-2 LTC Class B schoolboy football win over Mount Desert Island Friday night.

Burnes scored on runs of 10 and 30 yards. Senior quarterback Jeff Conlon rushed for 74 yards and completed a 44-yard scoring pass to Robb Pawson. Dan Coffin paced the defense with 13 tackles while Conlon chipped in with 10.

For MDI, Dave Blaney made nine tackles and recovered a fumble.

Foxcroft 29, Bucksport 26

At Bucksport, Brock Hartford’s 20-yard touchdown pass to Nate Laita in the fourth quarter put Foxcroft Academy up for good and the Ponies held on for the win over Bucksport.

Ben Preston scored Foxcroft’s first touchdown on a 64-yard punt return in the first quarter and he later added a six-yard scoring run. Josh Marx recorded a safety and Charlie Fearon scored on a one-yard run to round out the scoring.

For Bucksport, sophomore Cameron Giroux completed 5-of-16 throws for 128 yards and three touchdowns. Chad Gilley scored on a 16-yard run.

At Pittsfield, Matt York scored three touchdowns, including a 50-yard catch, to lead Maine Central Institute to victory.

York scored on a five-yard run in the first quarter and scored a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter as MCI jumped out to a 20-0 lead at the half.

Aric Friend scored on a four-yard run and Rick Smith threw a 45-yard pass to Rob Tibbetts for MCI.

Aaron Weaver scored Rockland’s lone touchdown, a four-yard run in the fourth quarter.

At Millinocket, the Minutemen used some big plays and a dominating run game to put away the Crusaders.

B.J. Jandreau paced the Minutemen with 112 yards and a touchdown on seven carries. Joe Lyons added touchdown runs of 61 and 4 yards. John Montgomery scored on a 34-yard run and later intercepted a pass and returned it 24 yards for a touchdown while Aaron Porter returned a punt for 61 yards and a score.

For John Bapst of Bangor, Zach Pratt scored in the fourth quarter on a five-yard rush.

At Gardiner, Stefan Kervin’s second touchdown run in the third quarter and Jason Fortin’s extra point provided the margin of victory.

Kervin scored from one and two yards out for Waterville.

Phil Alley scored a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Tigers, and John Lerette added a conversion kick.

At Skowhegan, Dustin Ireland broke a 7-7 tie with a 74-yard run, as Mt. Blue of Farmington scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to take the victory.

Ireland also hooked up with Matt Duffy for a 46-yard touchdown pass to give the Cougars a 21-7 lead in the fourth quarter.

Tom Nadeau put Skowhegan on the board in the first quarter with a 14-yard run. The Indians’ Josh Nowling scored on a 14-yard run in the fourth.
