BANGOR – After a heartbreaking 13-7 loss at Lawrence High School of Fairfield last Friday night, the Bangor High School Rams were looking for a little redemption at Cameron Stadium Friday night.

Unforunately for the winless and injury-battered Cony High School Rams of Augusta, they were next on Bangor’s schedule and they were simply no match for Bangor.

Bangor scored on its first play from scrimmage – a 49-yard flea-flicker from Tommy Waterman to Jason St. Pierre – and its first five possessions en route to a 48-0 triumph.

Bangor is now 4-1 while Cony fell to 0-5.

“We just wanted to put last week’s game behind us and come out and play a good game tonight,” said junior quarterback Waterman, who scampered 30 yards for a TD on Bangor’s second possession.

“Coach [Gabby Price] worked us hard in practice. He’s been on us all week to step it up a level and get ready for the rest of the season,” said Ram offensive guard-defensive end Brandon Haney.

Bangor racked up 467 total yards, including 411 on the ground, while limiting Cony to 19 total yards. Bangor averaged 8.7 yards per carry.

The flea-flicker set the tone as Waterman handed off to Pat Estey, who then stopped and flipped it back to him. St. Pierre was wide open and Waterman put it right into his hands.

“We work on that play every week. That’s our special play. The way Pat has been running, I figured they’d bite on the run,” said Waterman.

On its next possession, Bangor marched 55 yards on five plays with Waterman’s 30-yard option dash making it 14-0.

“The line made a big hole,” said Waterman. “The line was awesome. They made huge holes.”

The interior line was comprised of Haney, guard Chris Gaspar, center Jeff Guerette and tackles Pat Sarto and Caleb Smith.

Estey’s 57-yard run on the next possession set up Chris McLean’s seven-yard TD run and, on their fourth possession, Bangor covered 66 yards in seven plays with McLean’s 17-yard run capping it.

At that point, with 7:06 left in the half, Bangor coach Price pulled his starters in favor of his second team. And they capitalized on their first drive, going 57 yards on five plays, including Hampton Clarkson’s 16-yard TD run.

In the second half, Josh McAuliffe ran 65 yards for a TD and Phil Vanidestine added a three-yard run.

Estey finished with 116 yards on five carries and McAuliffe added 115 on five carries. Waterman ran the ball twice for 40 yards and completed both of his passes for 45 yards.

“Bangor has a lot of team speed and they have tremendous athletes at every position. Waterman is a game-breaker,” said Cony coach Ralph Peterson.
