Beaudoin propels UMF past Lyndon

FARMINGTON – Jamie Beaudoin netted a hat trick and assisted on three more goals to power the University of Maine-Farmington to a 6-0 men’s college soccer victory Tuesday over Lyndon State of Lyndonville, Vt.

Beaudoin set up two goals by Laughn Berthiaume and one by Frode Olsen for the Beavers. Goalies Josh Verville and Nick Moulton teamed up to make two saves on six shots to collect the shutout.

Doug Kennedy made two saves on 16 shots for Lyndon State.

Colby 8, Thomas 1

At Waterville, the White Mules got four goals in each half in their rout of the Terriers.

Mark Melander notched a hat trick, Andy Young tallied twice, and Nizar Al-Bassam and Brian Dowling added a goal each for Colby. Graham Nelson saved six of the 11 shots he faced.

Jahma Charles had the lone goal for 5-9 Thomas, also of Waterville. Dyke Lawrence rejected 13 of 26 shots.

Field hockey

Bowdoin 4, Colby 0

At Brunswick, the Polar Bears tallied three first-half goals in their win over the White Mules.

Sarah Mazur paved the way with two goals and an assist as Shannon Reilly and Heather Hawes chipped in a goal apiece for 10-3 Bowdoin. Goalie Dana Krueger made three saves on five shots.

Goalies Emily Record and Jennifer Kennedy combined to stop 17 of the 39 shots they faced in net for 2-11 Colby College of Waterville.
