CANAAN — A man crossing busy Route 2 to cast his vote Tuesday night was struck and seriously injured by a passing car.
Somerset County Deputy Sgt. Wilfred Hines said Elias Bresnick, 19, received serious lacerations and multiple bruises in the accident, which occurred in front of the Canaan Grange Hall about 4:50 p.m.
Hines said Bresnick was struck by a 1984 Chevrolet station wagon driven by Gladys Lyons, 47, also of Canaan. Hines said Bresnick was knocked out of his shoes by the force of the impact and was propelled through the car’s windshield.
“The young man was wearing dark clothing,” said Hines, adding that Lyons did not see Bresnick in the road. “He is fortunate to be alive,” said Hines.
Bresnick was taken by Skowhegan EMS to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield, where he remained Wednesday. He was listed in stable condition.
No charges will be filed, according to Hines.
