ABBOT — A 16-year-old Abbot juvenile was arrested Monday afternoon after holding his parents hostage with a 4-foot-long homemade spear.

The juvenile, who got upset after his parents confronted him about a chore that remained undone, was charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, according to Sgt. Investigator Robert Young of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department.

Young said the juvenile first tried to climb onto a roof to escape from the house after the dispute over the chore, but was stopped by his parents. He then allegedly grabbed the homemade spear and threatened his parents with it, Young said. The juvenile’s father managed to grab the spear away from his son before calling police. The juvenile then locked himself in a room. He did not resist arrest, according to Young.

The juvenile was released to a friend of the family, according to Young. The officer said he was not aware of any previous history that the juvenile may have had.
