GRAY — The National Weather Service will present a series of Weather Spotter Training Courses at Calais, Ellsworth and Rangeley Tuesday through Thursday.

Seminars will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the assembly room of Washington County Technical College on River Road, Calais; 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Ellsworth Public Library, on Riverview Street; and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Rangeley Lakes Regional School on Mednolia Drive.

The National Weather Service uses volunteer Weather Spotters during the winter to obtain temperatures and precipitation amounts and types during winter storms.

At these sessions, the service will provide an overview of its operation, information on the causes and effects of winter and severe weather, and details of the Winter Weather Spotter Program. Those who complete the training will have the opportunity to enlist as National Weather Service Winter Weather Spotters.

For additional information, contact personnel at the training sites or Warning Coordination Meteorologist John Jensenius at the National Weather Service in Gray at 688-3222.
