We congratulate Sen. William S. Cohen on his nomination as secretary of defense.

After 24 years of distinguished service in both bodies of the United States Congress, we are greatly encouraged by Sen. Cohen’s decision to postpone his retirement from public life. His continued service on our nation’s defense priorities will be good news for Maine and all of America.

We also thank Sen. Cohen for his positive influence on our lives. His principled dedication, independent thinking, and thoughtful leadership have made him an outstanding statesman and role model.
