AUGUSTA – Despite a waterfowling fatality in October, Maine’s 1996 deer hunting season turned out to be the second safest season on record. This is only the second time since 1940 that Maine enjoyed a single-digit injury rate during the season.
According to Maine Fish and Wildlife Safety Officer Gary Anderson, there were eight hunting-related shooting incidents during the fall hunt.
