The editorial cartoon on Dec. 20 truly exceeds the limits of good taste. It depicts the prime minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, scowling at an image suggesting the three wise men, complete with the Star of Bethlehem. While the three proclaim “peace on earth,” Netanyahu calls them “extremists.”

The use of such loaded religious imagery to convey a political opinion is a most unfortunate choice. It can only serve to heighten prejudice and interreligious hostility, truly an unbecoming sentiment for our community and this season.

Even if one disagrees with Netanyhau’s politics, just which of his partners in the peace process is a standard bearer of “peace on earth”? Rabbi Dr. Laurence Elis Milder Bangor

So, Benjamin Netanyhau is not my favorite Israeli prime minister, either…

But, tell me, who are the three wise men bringing peace to the Holy Land supposed to be? Assad? Arafat? Saddam Hussein? Sidney R. Block Bangor
