MADAWASKA – The Van Buren Crusaders went up by three points with 12 seconds remaining, then held off the Madawaska Owls in the waning seconds for a 60-59 schoolboy basketball win Tuesday night.

Madawaska missed a 3-pointer, then put back the rebound for two points, but time ran out.

Travis Vaillancourt pumped in 25 points to lead the Crusaders, Nathan Marquis added 16, and Travis Lajoie 14.

Luke Pennington led the Owls, who used a full-court man press in the fourth quarter to close to a point, with 21 points, and Ryan Cyr had 16.

At Woodland, James Smith scored nine of his 24 points in the third periods to rally Washington past Woodland and on to an 18-point win.

Washington Academy trailed by two going into the second half. Matt Saumur added five of his 15 in the period as the Raiders of East Machias outscored the Dragons 24-13 in the period.

Josh Ramsdell added 17 points and Brandon Ashby notched 10 for the winners.

Daryl Huwa scored 21 points and Bob Chandler netted 13 for Woodland.
