Led by two skiers in the top 20, the Fort Kent girls finished third overall in the slalom at the Class A skiing championships at Sunday River in Bethel, compiling 73 points.

Skowhegan placed second in boys A competition with 43 points.

The Camden-Rockport boys are third in Class B competition at Sugarloaf/USA in Carrabassett Valley with 67 points, while the girls squad is fifth after the first day with 90 points.

Other area schools competing are Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield (sixth in boys, 118 points; eighth in girls, 109 points), John Bapst (seventh in girls, 100 points; ninth in boys, 149 points), and Hermon (11th in boys, 180 points; 11th in girls, 154 points).

John Cooley of Camden-Rockport finished fourth in the boys B slalom with a time of 54.33 seconds, Fort Kent’s Laynie Charette placed fifth in the Class A girls slalom with a time of 1:26.52, and Skowhegan’s Eric Gower finished fourth in the Class A boys slalom with a 1:28.00.
