Dan Kerluke of the Brampton Capitals, a 62-goal scorer and an all-star in the (Ontario) Provincial Junior A League, has verbally committed to attend the University of Maine on a hockey scholarship.

He will attend Maine pending admission to the institution.

The 20-year-old Kerluke, a 5-foot-11, 175-pounder who finished the regular season with 111 points, was also recruited by Alabama-Huntsville and Brown.

“He’s real fast. He’s faster carrying the puck than some guys are without the puck,” said Brampton assistant Mario Cicchillo. “And he can shoot the puck. He quarterbacks our power play from the point. He also kills penalties. He does everything. Maine is getting a very good player.”

Kerluke said, “A lot of people have told me that Maine is one of the best hockey schools around. It has a great location and the school has great academics. I’m looking forward to it very much.”
