Marshall hit gives Madawaska win

FORT KENT – Ben Marshall hit a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning to score Steve Ayotte and give Madawaska a 13-12 high school baseball win over Fort Kent on Wednesday.

Derrick Cooper led Madawaska with two singles and a solo homer. Eric Gendreau slugged a two-run double and Mike Lavertu added a double.

For Fort Kent, Eric Berube belted a three-run homer and a single while Hunter Pelletier clubbed a two-run double.

Limestone 14, Washburn 1

At Washburn, Limestone’s 14-hit attack was enough to overpower Washburn in five innings.

Josh Dillon and Ethan Bagley led the Beavers with three singles each and Ian Hall had two singles.

Jon Constant had a double and Trent Cunningham had a single for Washburn.

Van Buren edges Tigers twice

At Fort Fairfield, the Crusaders used late-game heroics twice to sweep Fort Fairfield 1-0 and 5-4.

In the first game, Travis Lajoie reached on an error in the sixth inning, stole second, tagged up to move to third on a flyout, and scored on a throwing error after he rounded the bag wide on the play.

Mark Sirois rapped two singles for Van Buren while Isaac Cote and Nathan Marquis each doubled. Cote also spun a two-hitter, striking out five and walking two.

Jason Cunningham and Brandon Traknis each singled for Fort Fairfield.

In the second game, the Crusaders won it in the fifth inning when Ben LaPlante doubled and Cote doubled him home to snap the 4-4 tie.

Cote also singled and finished with three RBIs. LaPlante doubled, tripled and knocked in a run.

Ryan Houghton doubled and drove in two runs while Joel Brahim singled three times.

At Lubec, Curtis Hancock ripped three singles, a double and knocked in four runs for the Knights of Harrington.

Chad Berry added a pair of singles for the winners. Adam Meyer notched a single and a triple.

Shawn Day ahd a double and a single for Lubec.

At East Sullivan, the Tigers had 11 hits and just one error to overpower the Mariners.

Steve Kinghorn led Sumner with a double, single and two RBIs; Jason Soule hit two singles and had three RBIs; and Jeremy McDevitt had two singles.

Nick Wiberg led for Deer Isle Stonington with a double and single; while Ben Barrows knocked a solo homer.

At Guilford, junior Brody McKenney gave up five hits, striking out 11 and walking none, to improve to 4-0 for the Pirates.

Dan Perry launched a two-run homer and singled for Central of East Corinth.

At Husson College in Bangor, Joel Perry’s two-out RBI double in the second inning proved to be the game-winner in a point-worthy victory.

Perry finished with two doubles, three RBIs and scored two runs, and Nate Waring paced John Bapst with 3-for-3 game including a two-run home run in the first and an RBI single in the second. Jeff Millard knocked out two singles.

Jody Peak led Bucksport with a double.

Ashland sweeps Hodgdon

At Hodgdon, Sara Dwyer ripped five hits in a doubleheader for the Hornets’ 15-10 and 15-3 sweep.

In game one, Dwyer notched three singles and a double. Mandy Maker and Jen Carney also ripped two singles.

Crissy Emery and Jen McGary each rapped triples for the Hawks.

In game two, Dwyer slammed a solo home run and added a single. Maker added three singles, a solo home run and knocked in five runs.

McGary ripped another triple for Hodgdon.

Fort Fairfield sweeps Van Buren

At Fort Fairfield, junior slugger Devin Jewett went six-for-seven with a pair of home runs to propel the Tigers to 14-3 and 18-3 wins in a doubleheader sweep.

Jewett raised her batting average to .793. She has jolted eight home runs and driven in 24 runs in nine games for the undefeated Tigers.

In the first game, Jewett homered and doubled while Jenn Doak stroked a double and a single and drove in three runs. Dallas Nightingale singled twice and drove in two runs.

Lyn Tardif singled and doubled for Van Buren.

In the second game, the 3-4-5 spots in the order were deadly for Fort Fairfield. No. 3 hitter Sarah Nason smashed a home run, two doubles and a single for three RBIs, cleanup hitter Jewett doubled twice, singled twice and knocked in three more, and No. 5 hitter Nightingale drilled a pair of solo homers.

Kristin Ayotte singled twice for the Crusaders.

At Harrington, Lindsay Portrie tripled, doubled, drove in a run, and notched the victory as her Narraguagus Knights notched their fourth straight win.

Angie Curtis hit a three-run home run in the third and singled three times for a total of four RBIs. April Wallace hit a solo homer. Holly Strout smacked a triple, double, and four RBIs, and Connie Look had four singles and two RBIs for the Knights.

Danielle Stevens doubled and singled for the Hornets. Lindsay Davis and Samantha Bell each singled twice.

Tanya Mushero whacked an RBI triple for Lee Academy.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Jayne Fagan’s two-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning scored Kelly Emmons from second base with the winning run for Foxcroft.

Fagan paced the Ponies with three singles. Renee Libby slammed a two-run homer and singled while Sherry Zimmerman and Becky Warren each chipped in with a single and a double.

At Guilford, the Red Devils racked up 14 hits and played error-free ball to down the Pirates.

Amy Bracy had three singles for Central, Amanda Wright had two singles and Angela Allen had a single and double.

For Piscataquis of Guilford, Darby Smiley and Nicole Goulette each had two singles, and Shandi Drew had a single and triple.

At Thomaston, T.J. Bard scattered nine hits and allowed just one run for Lisbon.

Bard also slapped two singles and scored a run. Jonica Martin added a double and Tracy Ayotte notched a single and scored a run.

Gretchen Knutson and Jen Jones each had a pair of singles for Georges Valley.

At Belfast, Sami Hibbard doubled, singled, walked and collected five stolen bases and a pair of RBIs to lead the Windjammers.

Sarah Dailey added two singles for the winners.

Lisa Barrows rapped three singles for the Lions while Tanya Flood doubled, singled and knocked in two runs. Darci Brown, Monica Bryant and Sarah Berry had a pair of singles each for Belfast.
