Devoe powers Hornets to sweep

ASHLAND – Tracy Devoe drove in six runs on a triple, double, and single as Ashland stung Central Aroostook of Mars Hill 27-13 in the second game, completing a sweep of Thursday’s schoolgirl softball doubleheader.

Ashland took the first game 27-20.

Denise Dumond smacked three singles and Amy Palmer ripped a triple and a single for Ashland.

Andrea Lunn slammed four singles and two RBIs to pace Central Aroostook of Mars Hill. Jennifer Peers added two singles.

In the first game, Terri Bennett knocked a two-run single and Sarah Dwyer smacked a two-run double to cap an eight-run sixth inning and earn a win for the Hornets.

Jen Carney hit three singles and Palmer rapped two doubles for Ashland.

Lindsay Boyd led the Panthers with three singles and a double. Charity Cummings knocked three singles.

At Fort Kent, Becky Pelletier led Wisdom’s 10-hit attack with two singles and a double.

Lena Chamberland added two singles and an RBI.

For Fort Kent, Jessica Corriveau had two singles and Nicole Cyr had a single and RBI.

At Woodland, Rachel Wearne allowed only two hits, striking out five, as the Dragons prevailed.

Wearne contributed two singles, three RBIs and four runs scored for the winners. Angela Robb and Kacey Pike each provided a single and three RBIs.

Shona Feltner rapped an RBI double for Lubec. Jamie Moores singled and scored.

At Machias, Shirley Moe had a big day with a home run in the sixth inning and three RBIs for the game.

Carolyn Luce rapped two singles and a double and Jordan Wood singled three times for Machias.

Calais 13, Narraguagus 10

At Calais, Katie MacMannis stroked a triple and two singles good for two RBIs and the Blue Devils took advantage of 10 walks in beating Narraguagus of Harrington.

Sarah Currier slapped two singles and plated two runs to back winner Heather Farrell, who struck out five and walked two.

Holly Strout and Lindsey Portrie each hit a triple and a double with two RBIs for the Knights. Connie Look had two doubles and two RBIs behind loser Laura Morse, who scattered six hits and struck out eight, but walked 10.

At Millinocket, the Eagles took advantage of three Minutemen errors to score nine runs in the top of the first inning.

Rachel Smallidge rapped two singles and Melissa Lamar singled to lead Ellsworth.

Brooke Legassey slammed a solo home run and a single to pace Stearns. Angela Philbrook plated two runs on two singles.

At East Millinocket, Angie Brawn and Allison McLaughlin each smacked a double to highlight a seven-run fourth inning for Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln.

At Guilford, Melissa Krapf ripped two singles to help lead the Lee Academy Pandas to the victory over Piscataquis.

Kelley Jensen scattered 11 hits over seven innings for the win.

Darby Smiley had a double, single, and two RBIs to pace the Pirates. Erin Smith also singled twice. Garnet Korsman pitched a four-hitter, but took the loss.

At Bangor Wednesday night, Melissa Krapf picked up the complete-game victory for Lee, scattering seven hits and striking out three. Tanya Mushero went 2-for-4 with a triple.

Shelley Sprague had three singles and Erin Johnston had two hits for Schenck of East Millinocket.

At Pittsfield, the Huskies’ four-run six provided the margin of victory over the Windjammers.

Nikki Cianchette paced Maine Central Institute with a double, two singles and an RBI and Hannah Andrews stroked three singles (1 RBI). Kristyn Graham plated two runs with a double and a single and Kristi Connors singled twice (2 RBIs).

Sammie Hibbard led Camden-Rockport with a triple, a double and two RBIs. Marissa Anderson singled twice.

At Newport, Kori Dionne slammed a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to lift Bangor past Nokomis.

Kristy Bowden had a triple for Bangor.

Wendy Winslow had two signles to pace Nokomis, which took a 3-0 lead going into the sixth. Kim Pushor knocked a triple.

At Old Town, the Indians put together a 19-hit attack and committed just one error to hammer Hampden.

Tara Drinkwater earned the win and paced Old Town at the plate with a single, two doubles, a triple and four RBIs.

Kendra Brown and Brandy Knapp each had three singles, a double and two RBIs for the Indians. Jody Kenniston had a single, triple, and two RBIs. Danielle Wentworth and Kalina Cuarisma each added two singles.

For Hampden, Katie Fraser had two singles and Sarah Trask had a triple and an RBI.

At Woodland, Jeremy Phelps spun a two-hitter and struck out seven Hornets to pick up the win.

Phelps helped himself, ripping an RBI double. Tony Robb blasted a three-run home run, a triple, and a double for the Dragons. Ryan Thornton chipped in with a double.

Ken Fergerson slapped a pair of RBI singles to pace Lubec.

At Millinocket, the Minutemen had a seven-run seventh inning to rally for the win.

Justin Grant went 3-for-5 for Stearns. He started off the rally with a single and finished up by scoring the winning run. Corey Streams had two hits and three RBIs and Darren Daniels had two hits.

Josh Magoon had two singles and a triple for Ellsworth. Ben Donaldson and Phil Hodgkins each had two hits.
