UM’s Quinn gains honor from ECAC

Garrett Quinn, who earned America East Pitcher of the Year honors this spring for his efforts at the University of Maine, has landed two more postseason accolades.

Quinn has been named to the ECAC Division I Baseball All-Star Team and is one of three Black Bears named to the New England Division I All-Star Team selected by the region’s coaches.

Quinn, a righthander from Skowhegan, was afforded first-team honors after going 9-3 with a 3.28 earned run average for coach Paul Kostacopoulos.

UMaine teammates Rex Turner of Augusta and T.J. Sheedy of Stoneham, Mass., were named to the All-New England second team. It was the third straight year in which Sheedy has been so honored.

The trio will represent UMaine and America East in the annual all-star game pitting New England’s premier Division I players against the best representatives from Divisions II and III. The contest is slated May 31 at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, Conn.

Turner, a junior outfielder, batted .363 with 14 home runs and 57 RBIs.

Sheedy, the Bears’ capable junior third baseman, led Maine with a .388 batting average and a .493 on-base percentage. He scored a team-high 56 runs and made 10 errors in 137 chances.

Sheedy has played in 163 consecutive games for the Bears.

Harvard coach Joe Walsh was selected the New England Division I Coach of the Year.
