The District 3 Little League (ages 11-12) baseball tournament will begin today as eight teams face off in first-round action.
Old Town will look to defend its District 3 title when it opens the tournament hosting Coastal. Last year, Old Town beat Bangor West 6-5 to clinch the title. It went 1-2 in the state tournament, losing to Portland North 3-0, beating Waldo County 11-1 before being eliminated by Augusta East 11-1.
Portland North beat Saco 5-2 to win the state title.
In other action Monday, Bangor West host Sunrise, Brewer heads to Millinocket and Eastport hosts Calais. All games start at 5:30 p.m.
The tournament will continue on Tuesday when Machias hosts Kathadin, Bangor East plays Moosabec at the Bangor West field, Border meets Holbrook and Bucksport hosts Hampden.
Orono-Veazie, which received a first-round bye, hosts the winner of the Bangor West-Sunrise game July 2.
