Mike Bell’s wrote , “I do not want to belittle the importance of Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain to this state and to the nation, but do we really need to devise more ways to honor him?” (re: the Bugs Bunny stamp issue). I believe he did dishonor him by writing the letter.

I would ask him and others with this attitude to please go to the library, read, and be informed of the sacrifice Chamberlain made for you and freedom. He died on Feb. 24, 1914, of painful war wounds that he had suffered for 50 years. The honors he is receiving 83 years after his death, I feel, are long overdue.

If Bugs Bunny had been in command of the 20th Maine on July 2, 1863, at the Battle of Little Round Top, we would not enjoy the privileges we have today under the flag of the United States of America. There would be no union!

A grateful nation and this person thanks you, beloved Gen. Chamberlain. Wilma Anders Brewer
