Brewer wins Junior crown> Holbrook, Millinocket eliminate foes

The Millinocket and Holbrook Little League All-Star 11-and-12-year-olds continued to advance in the District 3 tourney on Wednesday and the Brewer 13-year-olds won the District 3 Junior League title. In 11-12 play, Millinocket eliminated Katahdin 10-0 while Holbrook knocked Brewer out of the tourney, 8-4.

The Millinocket and Holbrook Little League All-Star 11-and-12-year-olds continued to advance in the District 3 tourney on Wednesday and the Brewer 13-year-olds won the District 3 Junior League title.

In 11-12 play, Millinocket eliminated Katahdin 10-0 while Holbrook knocked Brewer out of the tourney, 8-4.

Millinocket will play Calais on Wednesday, while Holbrook takes on Bangor West.

In Junior Little League play, Brewer topped Acadia, 11-5 to win the district championship.

In Senior League baseball, Bangor edged Millinocket 5-4 to win the District crown.

Bangor East topped rival Bangor West 16-8 in District 3 Little League Softball in the 11-12 bracket. Bangor East, with one loss, advances to play unbeaten Old Town on Wednesday.

And in Senior League Softball, Old Town took care of Bangor, 18-7. Old Town moves into Tuesday’s game against undefeated Acadia.

Junior League

Brewer 11, Acadia 5

At Bangor, Jason Harvey lead Brewer to the junior league title with a sparkling all-around performance.

On the mound, Harvey pitched into the seventh, allowing only four hits and striking out eight. At the plate, he aided his own cause with a pair of singles.

Warren Chase banged out a double and three singles for Brewer, and three other players slammed two hits apiece, including Chris McHale, Ryan Largay and Lucas Trundy. That foursome drove in six runs.

Sean Lucey, John Dow and Pat Barter each had a single and an rbi for runner-up Acadia.

Little League, 11-12

Millinocket 10, Katahdin 0

At Sherman Mills, Derek DiFrederico had two doubles and Adam Qualey crafted a two-hitter to power Millinocket.

Qualey struck out six, gave up no walks and added two singles from the plate. Kurt Fitzgerald smacked a home run.

Travis Robinson had a hit and Matt Malone had a double for Katahdin.

Holbrook 8, Brewer 4

At Brewer, Bryan Snyder sparked Holbrook with a two-run single in the first as Holbrook scored six runs off three hits in the inning.

Snyder led for Holbrook, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Pat Healy went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Brewer was paced by Josh Caldwell who slapped an RBI single. Josh Kochis added a single and an RBI.

Shawn Sutherland took the win giving up four hits, five walks, and striking out six.

Four of the eight runs scored on Brewer’s Adam Porter were unearned.

Senior League

Bangor 5, Millinocket 4

At Bangor, Bangor claimed the senior league title with a defeat of Millinocket.

Travis Brooker went the distance and struck out seven for Bangor. Jason Thomas had two singles and scored a pair. Shawn Bouchard went 2-for-3 with two singles.

Josh Emerson knocked in two runs for Millinocket with a triple, and also scored a run. Rob Donato singled and scored.

Softball, 11-12

Bangor East 16, Bangor West 8

At Bangor, Jenny Jimmo pitched a complete-game four-hitter and aided her own cause with a two-run triple to lead Banor East.

Heidi Baker, Megan McCrum and Stephanie Chase each had two singles for Bangor East. Gabby Eastman had a two-run double.

Brandi Hatch drove in a pair of runs with a single for Bangor West.

Softball 13-15

Old Town 18, Bangor 7

At Old Town, Ericka Babin and Mary Randall each had three singles to lead the host team to the win.

Heather McLaughlin pitched a complete game allowing only six hits and also had a double and a single. Erin Ouellette, Keegan Richard and Jamie Higgins each contributed a double and a single.

Rachel Dube hit two singles and Kerri Tuck doubled for Bangor, which was eliminated from the tournament.
