PORTLAND — A Leeds man pleaded guilty Tuesday to federal charges he took close to $74,000 from an automated teller machine in Ogunquit last month.
Authorities said Michael Pelletier was working for Brinks, a security firm, at the time of the theft. They say Pelletier used his training to open the ATM, shut off the alarm and access the safe.
After the theft, he buried the money in the woods in Leeds. Police recovered more than $55,000.
Pelletier faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
His brother-in-law, Brian Coolidge, is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday on charges of aiding and abetting bank theft and receipt of stolen funds.
