BANGOR – Brothers James and Scott MacDonald led Calais to a 6-2 victory over Bangor West in the District 3 ages 11-12 baseball tournament Thursday at the Bangor West field.

Calais plays Old Town Monday night for the right to face Bucksport Tuesday night. Bucksport is the lone undefeated team in the tournament. With the loss, Bangor West was eliminated from the tournament.

Scott MacDonald pitched a complete-game, five-hitter for Calais. He struck out seven and helped his own cause with a single, a double and an RBI.

“He did a good job keeping our kids off-balance,” Bangor West coach Dave Mansfield said. “He kept it down and our kids had a hard time getting the bat on the ball.”

James MacDonald sparked a three-run first inning for Calais with a two-run home run.

Calais finished with eight hits off two Bangor West pitchers. Bob Daggett added a double and a single, Joe Footer added two singles, and Jason Kimball had an RBI single.

“[Calais] is one of the better hitting teams I have seen in this tourament this year,” Mansfield said. “As a matter of fact, they are one of the best hitting teams I have seen in this tournament for a quite a few years.”

After Calais scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to give it a 5-1 lead, Bangor West cut the lead to 5-2 in the top of the sixth. Allen Easley reached on an single and advance to second on a double off the left-field fence by Joe Taylor. Calais added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth when Daggett scored on a sacrifice fly by Scott MacDonald.

Nick Achorn, Justin DePhillipo, Shawn Dennis and Allen Easley all notched singles for Bangor West.

At Old Town, Liz Saucier notched the win, striking out six in five innings to give Old Town the District 3 title.

Saucier helped her cause with three hits and four RBIs.

Heather Surette drove in the winning run in the bottom of the fifth, knocking in Melanie Cox. Jillian Ouellette finished up the inning by smacking a bases-loaded double, driving in three runs. Renee Thibodeau added two singles and four RBIs to Old Town’s effort.

Aimee Patterson had a single and a triple and Meghan Chase added a double and an RBI for Bangor East.
