Managing Bangor

Ed Barrett — City Manager of the Year? Boy, doesn’t that conjure up some sad images. It was just about a year ago that Marshall Frankel and Chris Popper conspired to oust Ed Barrett (in an illegal meeting) because they felt he was incompetent. Well, we all know how that little episode ended . . . Frankel resigned under circumstances that have still not become clear and Popper lost his bid for re-election to the City Council. I see Popper is running again (let’s hope he loses this one too) and as for Marshall, well, we still don’t know what happened there and I’m beginning to wonder if we ever will. Is that audit still going on, has it uncovered any dirty little secrets, has it disappeared into the wood-work? Will the citizens of Bangor ever be notified of the results?
