HOULTON – The Houlton Shiretowners scored two second-half goals to gain a 2-0 schoolboy soccer win over Madawaska Monday afternoon.
Mike Weston broke the tie off a Don Rafford assist for 1-1 Houlton, while Andy Fitzpatrick’s goal was assisted by Jake Cowperthwaite. Goalie Matt Burleigh stopped 10 of 12 shots to preserve the shutout.
Shawn Pelletier made 11 saves on 22 shots for 2-2 Madawaska.
Easton 5, Southern Aroostook 2
At Dyer Brook, Erik Lamoreau scored four goals and added an assist to pace the Bears offense.
A.J. Cleaves added a goal for 2-1 Easton. Goalie Jeff Blackstone made seven saves on 10 shots.
Ben Walker tallied a goal and an assist for 0-2 Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook, and Jeremy Locke added a goal. Sam Michaud stopped 11 of 16 shots for the Warriors.
Van Buren 4, Limestone 2
At Van Buren, Chanel Wright’s two goals and one assist helped the Van Buren Crusaders defeat the Eagles of Limestone and retain their undefeated status at 4-0.
Wright’s first goal was assisted by Adam St. Pierre, and his second was assisted by Brian Pelletier. Wright’s own assist was on a goal scored by Mike Sirois. Van Buren’s other goal was provided by Eric Ayotte, with an assist by Hank Sirois. Goalkeeper Nathan Marquis made 11 saves on 13 shots.
Ricky Luna provided both of Limestone’s goals, the first assisted by David King and the second on a penalty kick. Goalie Ryan Mulherin made 18 saves on 39 shots at goal. Limestone drops to 0-4.
Wisdom 8, Washburn 0
At Washburn, Andy Soucy and Josh Roy each scored three goals apiece and Joey Soucy had the other two as Wisdom improved to 1-2.
The Soucys each had an assist and Nate Deschaine had a pair of assists for the winners, and goalie Chad Bouchard made 17 saves in posting the shutout.
Nick Thompson and Ben Umphrey combined for 14 saves for Washburn, 0-4.
Fort Fairfield 3, CAHS 0
At Mars Hill, Brandon Traknis broke a scoreless tie early in the second half and Joel Brahim and Nick McCullough added insurance goals late in the game to key unbeaten Fort Fairfield to its fourth win.
John Hayes made five saves in posting the shutout and McCullough also had an assist.
Brad Walsh made 11 stops for 2-3 Central Aroostook.
Girls soccer
Van Buren 2, Limestone 0
At Van Buren, Nicole Sirois provided both goals for Van Buren, leading the Crusaders over the Limestone Eagles.
Sirois’s goals were assisted by Melissa Cyr and Denise Marquis, respectively. Goalie Hope Ouellette made seven saves on nine shots on goal. Van Buren goes to 3-1.
Limestone goalie Margaret Ritz made seven saves on nine shots on goal. The Eagles drop to 0-4.
Wisdom 3, Washburn 2
At Washburn, Tracy Guerrette made things happen for Wisdom, handing out three assists in the Pioneers’ victory.
Lisa Ouellette, Shana Soucy, and Daisey Mueller scored for Wisdom of St. Agatha. Mueller’s second-half score gave the Pioneers a 3-1 lead and provided the winning margin. Nina Michaud stopped two of three Washburn shots.
For the 1-3 Beavers, April Busse and Krista Doody accounted for the goals. Amy Allen had nine saves on 13 attempts.
Madawaska 2, Houlton 1
At Madawaska, Kristen Pelletier scored in the closing minutes of the second half, propelling the undefeated Madawaska Owls over the visiting Houlton Shiretowners.
Pelletier’s game-winner was assisted by Tiffany Nelson. Erin Pelletier scored Madawaska’s other goal, with an assist by Jenny Boucher. Goalie Steph Gagnon blocked 12 of the 13 shots on goal. The Owls’ record is 4-0.
Kelly Socoby scored 0-2 Houlton’s lone goal with an assist by Autumn Gentle. Goalkeeper Jessica Prosser made 14 saves on 17 shots on goal.
Presque Isle 1, Fort Kent 1
At Presque Isle, Katie Peers scored off a pass from Melissa Hendrickson for the 1-0-1 Wildcats. Jen Hallett halted 12 of 16 shots.
Andrea Nadeau netted a goal and Heather Bard had an assist for 0-1-1 Fort Kent. Andrea Marquis made 23 saves on 27 shots.
Fort Fairfield 2, Cen. Aroostook 1
At Fort Fairfield, Jaime Parsley broke a 1-1 second-half tie with a goal at 29:54 to put the Tigers up for good. Sarah Nelson had the assist.
Fort Fairfield’s Sarah Nason started the scoring with a direct kick goal in the first half.
With 24:07 left in the second half, Central Aroostook’s Lindsay Boyd tied the score with an unassisted goal.
For Fort Fairfield, Devin Jewett saved two of the 3-1 Panthers’ nine shots on goal. Central Aroostook goalie Erin Whited saved 12 of the 3-1 Tigers’ 18 shots on goal.
