I find it dissappointing that the Bangor City Council has the energy and quick action to address the Don Imus T-shirt problem, yet after more than four years, doesn’t have that same energy and quick action to settle the contract for the city of Bangor firefighters. I am sorry to hear that things have not changed in seventh grade since I was a student. So I don’t think you can blame Don Imus or anyone else but the parents.
[Lynn] Bonsey [BDN op-ed column, Aug. 25] is right about one thing: Imus may not be appropriate for chidren. Neither may Rush Limbaugh, Oprah Winfrey, Dr. Laura, or the Bangor Daily News without adult guidance and explanation. However, as an adult I have the right to listen to the Imus show. There is a place in society for satire and parody; “Gulliver’s Travels” is an example.
I listen to the show because Imus is funny and I hear thoughtful discourse on current events. His guests include Bob Dole, Sen John McCain, Sen. John Kerry, William Cohen, Tom Brokaw, Tim Russert, Doris Kerns , Cardinal O’Connor, and President Clinton. Would Bonsey like to add these people to her list of shock jocks? Paul Nichols Levant
