I find it dissappointing that the Bangor City Council has the energy and quick action to address the Don Imus T-shirt problem, yet after more than four years, doesn’t have that same energy and quick action to settle the contract for the city of Bangor firefighters. Thomas Goehringer Jr. Bangor firefighter and paramedic Monroe

I am sorry to hear that things have not changed in seventh grade since I was a student. So I don’t think you can blame Don Imus or anyone else but the parents.

[Lynn] Bonsey [BDN op-ed column, Aug. 25] is right about one thing: Imus may not be appropriate for chidren. Neither may Rush Limbaugh, Oprah Winfrey, Dr. Laura, or the Bangor Daily News without adult guidance and explanation. However, as an adult I have the right to listen to the Imus show. There is a place in society for satire and parody; “Gulliver’s Travels” is an example.

I listen to the show because Imus is funny and I hear thoughtful discourse on current events. His guests include Bob Dole, Sen John McCain, Sen. John Kerry, William Cohen, Tom Brokaw, Tim Russert, Doris Kerns , Cardinal O’Connor, and President Clinton. Would Bonsey like to add these people to her list of shock jocks? Paul Nichols Levant
