Cyr gives Owls win over Tigers

MADAWASKA – Andrew Cyr scored unassisted at 29:48 of the second half, carrying Madawaska to a 2-1 victory over previously unbeaten Fort Fairfield in schoolboy soccer action Friday.

Ben Marshall tallied late in the first half for 3-3 Madawaska. Shawn Pelletier made 11 saves on 21 shots.

Joel Brahim scored in the second half for the Tigers, now 6-1-1. John Hayes saved 18 of 34 shots.

Van Buren 5, Limestone 0

At Limestone, Brian Pelletier scored two first-half goals and Nate Marquis registered 11 saves as the unbeaten Crusaders shut out the Eagles.

Zac Cote, Kris Vaillancourt and Eric Ayotte scored one goal apiece for 6-0-2 Van Buren. Jesse Cormier had two assists.

Ryan Mulherin and Ethan Bagley combined to make 15 saves on 24 shots for 2-7 Limestone.

Ashland 11, Washburn 1

At Ashland, Chuck Robinson scored four goals and notched an assist as Ashland prevailed.

Darren Belskis scored three times and added a pair of assists. Lee Bennett had two goals. Randal Perry and Rustin Lovewell each added a goal. Aaron Bennett and Jeremy O’Clair combined to make six saves on eight shots for 2-3 Ashland.

Mark Baker scored on a Mark Kelly pass in the second half for 0-9 Washburn. Nick Thompson saved 35 of 43 shots.

Lee 2, Schenck 1

At East Millinocket, Derek Dicker scored twice in the second half to lift the Pandas to victory.

Travis Jacobs made eight saves on 14 shots for 1-0 Lee Academy.

Nate Jamo put Schenck up 1-0 with a first-half goal. Aaron Turcotte saved seven of the 17 shots he faced.

Girls soccer

Katahdin 5, Penquis 1

At Sherman Station, Cassie Carver powered Katahdin with four goals, two unassisted, as the Cougars beat up the Patriots of Milo.

Ashley Robinson assisted on two Carver goals and Melissa Landry scored unassisted to lift Katahdin, now 2-1. Laura Ordway stopped five of six shots to earn the win.

Emily Laverty scored Penquis’ lone goal off a Sarah Gahagan assist, and Lillian Gerrish had 17 saves on 21 shots for the 0-1 Patriots.

Madawaska 1, Fort Fairfield 0

At Madawaska, Kristen Pelletier broke a scoreless tie with six seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Owls.

Steph Gagnon stopped all eight shots she faced for 5-0-1 Madawaska.

Devin Jewett made 21 saves on 28 shots for Fort Fairfield, now 5-3.

Ashland 3, Washburn 0

At Ashland, Tracy Devoe scored twice to lead the Hornets past the Beavers.

Devoe scored the first with 1:38 remaining in the first half with an assist from Sarah Dwyer, and scored in the second half with help from Heidi Maker. Maker, with an assist from goalie and sister Mandy Maker, tallied the middle goal 34 seconds into the second half. Mandy Maker stopped all three shots she faced for the 4-1-1 Hornets.

For the 2-6 Beavers, goalie Billy Jo Fitzherbert made 11 saves on 16 shots.
