Chris Smith on film

I would like to thank the NEWS for the addition of Christopher Smith’s film review column.

Having recently moved to Maine from a major metropolitan area, I was surprised to find the NEWS didn’t have a regular weekly review column. I am an avid film-goer and like to think of myself of somewhat of a film buff. I stumbled across one of Smith’s reviews (“North by Northwest”) in your Style section and became an instant fan. He writes with a sophisticated wit and a keen knowledge of film and manages, somehow, to keep it from going over the heads of the average film-goer.

I haven’t been this entertained by flim reviews since Pauline Kael was writing for The New Yorker. Erich Kaiser Searsport
