Russell lifts Bucks by MDI 4-3

MOUNT DESERT – Sam Russell scored the game-winner on his second goal of the night with 11 minutes remaining in regulation as Bucksport edged Mount Desert Island 4-3 in schoolboy soccer action Tuesday.

Andres Penaranda and Tom Pollard each had goals for 3-5 Bucksport. Chris Marzolf saved 10 of 15 shots.

Justin Norwood, Keegan Drinkert and Chris Slack each scored a goal in the first period to give the Trojans an early 3-2 lead. Mike Garrity stopped 10 of 16 shots for 4-4-1 MDI.

JV: MDI 4, Bucksport 1

DI-Stonington 3, Sumner 0

At East Sullivan, Corey Eaton netted the game-winner 16 seconds into the second half.

Ben Barrows and Tim Thoner each added second-half goals for teh 5-4 winners. Eaton notched an assist and goalie Andy Bye stopped 10 of 17 shots.

Aaron Scott recorded 11 saves on 18 shots for 2-8 Sumner of East Sullivan.

Foxcroft Academy 6, Central 0

At Dover-Foxcroft, Justin Clawson scored two goals to lead the Foxcroft Academy Ponies.

Andy Hunt recorded the shutout by saving five of six shots for 6-2-1 Ponies. John Brennan, Seth Kimball and Andy Lizotte each scored a goal.

Rob Reynolds recorded 15 saves on 25 shots for 3-5 Central of East Corinth.

C-R 2, Maranacook 1

At Camden, Mike MacDonald scored the game-winning goal with 35 seconds left in the game off an assist from Marshall Smith.

Also for 7-2 Camden-Rockport, Jon Moro scored the game-tying goal unassisted with 1:45 left. Drew Mazzeo and Jim Wilson combined to make seven saves on 14 shots.

For the 2-6-1 Bears, Dan Westgate scored on an Eric Flye assist and Tony Creek made 14 saves on 18 shots.

Hermon 4, Dexter 2

At Hermon, Eion Pelletier scored three goals to lead the Hawks.

Eric Tableman added a goal to the effort. Jeff Whitehouse stopped 13 of 18 shots for 4-3-1 Hermon.

Dan Fields and Matt Small each scored goals for 2-6-1 Dexter. Ryan Robichaud recorded 18 saves on 24 shots.

Nokomis 1, Brewer 0

At Newport, Adam Austin scored on Brandon Ellisen’s assist 2 1/2 minutes into the second half to give the Nokomis Warriors their first win of the season.

Nick Wallace made 13 saves on 17 shots for the 1-7-1 Warriors.

Dave Johnson saved four of 15 shots for the 1-6 Witches.

Islesboro 3, Averill 1

At Hinckley, Ian Gallant, Mike Welldon and Derek Johnson each scored a goal to lead 4-3 Islesboro.

Ben Dove added two assists for the winners.

Jeff Pope scored unassisted with 5:10 remaining in regulation for 5-3 Averill of Hinkley.

Girls soccer

Searsport 2, PVHS 1

At Searsport, Lasha Keller had a goal and an assist to help lead the Vikings to a win over Penobscot Valley of Howland.

Sarah Ginn scored the other goal for the 6-2 Vikings. Jessie Barton made six saves on 10 shots.

Lindsay Windle scored unassisted for the Howlers and Jen Neal made 12 saves on 18 shots.

Cam-Rock 2, Maranacook 0

At Readfield, Maggie Cohn and Jessie Wootton each scored a goal to lead 7-1-1 Camden-Rockport.

Heather Fenton and Jacalyn Williams each had an assist for the Windjammers. Jaime Albright saved one of seven shots.

Kristen Sinclair stopped three of 11 shots for 4-4 Maranacook.

MDI 4, Bucksport 1

At Mount Desert, Katy Lawson scored a goal and assisted on another score to push Mount Desert Island to the win.

Mindy Kane, Maija Kaldro and Hollie Walker scored the other goals for the 8-1 Trojans. Sarah Skiff added an assist. Lacey Richards and Kristin Kinter combined to make five saves on eight shots.

Katie Pelletier scored off a Summer Smith assist for 5-2 Bucksport. Kelly Downes made seven saves on 15 shots.

Field hockey

Cam-Rock 2, Mount View 1

At Camden-Rockport, Jill Sady scored the game-winner with 9:39 left in the game off an assist from Sarah Dailey.

Joanna Stone gave the Windjammers a 1-0 lead off an assist from Dailey with 9:38 remaining in the first half. Eliza Mitchell and Alisa Smith combined to save two of three shots for 3-4-1 Camden-Rockport.

Sarah Lavway cut the lead to 2-1 off a pass from Merideth Arute 1:21 into the second half. Ellen Ward stopped 20 of 22 shots for 1-9 Mount View.

Belfast 3, MCI 2

At Belfast, Carrie Caputo knocked home the game-winner with three seconds remaining.

Tanya Flood, who had a goal and two assists, took a pass at midfield and raced down the right side. Flood crossed the ball, and Caputo, standing at the left post, redirected it into the net.

Sara McIntire also scored for 7-2 Belfast, and goalie Katie eight saves on 10 shots.

Hannah Andrews scored twice for 6-3 Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield, and goalie Natalia Mayhew stopped 10 of 13 shots.

PCHS 4, Orono 1

At Guilford, Darby Smiley scored two goals to lead 9-0 Pisca At Guilford, Darby Smiley scored two goals to lead 9-0 Piscataquis Community.

Erin Smith and Jamie Clukey each added a goal for the Pirates. Courtney Martin and Sacha Jackson each had an assist while Jana Watson saved one of three shots.

Orono’s Amanda Gammisch scored with 9:33 left in the game off an assist from Alicia Vinal. Jenn Brooks stopped 13 of 17 shots for the 3-6 Red Riots.
