Eagles soar with Hangge

ELLSWORTH – Mike Hangge took charge by scoring three times in the second half as the Ellsworth boys soccer team shut out Bucksport 3-0 Friday afternoon.

Hangge was assisted by Isaiah Hangge, Darby Higgins, and Cooper Friend.

Higgins, a senior, set a school record with his 38th career assist. Goalie Ryan Conley made two saves on six shots for the 8-0 Eagles.

Justin Rowell saved seven of the 16 shots he faced in net for 3-6 Bucksport.

JV: Ellsworth 8, Bucksport 0

Islesboro 6, Higgins Christian 1

At Islesboro, Tracy Wuori scored three goals as the Eagles defeated Higgins Christian Academy.

Derek Johnson added a goal and an assist for 6-3 Islesboro. Alek Miller tacked on a goal and an assist. Ryan Grindle scored a goal and Mike Welldon had an assist. Steven Shand made six saves on 12 shots.

David Bryson scored on an assist from Shawn Blodgett for 1-6-1 Higgins Christian of Charleston. Brandon Philbrook made 17 saves on 31 shots.

Schenck 3, Lee 0

At Lee, Nate Jamo scored a goal and assisted on another as Schenck of East Millinocket blanked Lee Academy.

Nick Lyons scored on a direct kick with 19 minutes left in the first half for the 6-2-1 Wolverines. Chris Wyman scored on a pass from Jamo with 1:35 left in the first half. Aaron Turcotte made 19 saves on 25 shots.

Travis Jacobs stopped six of 16 shots for the Pandas, now 6-2-3.

George Stevens 6, Old Town 0

At Blue Hill, six different players scored for the Eagles as they shut out Old Town.

Dave Loomis, Jared Gordon, Matt Welch, Chris Baldwin, Andrew O’Neal, and Scott Cukierski all scored goals for 5-3-1 George Stevens. Mark Wood and Dan Reed each had an assist. Owen Newkirk made five saves on seven shots.

John Graves turned away 18 of 30 shots for 2-6 Old Town.

Searsport 2, DI-Stonington 1

At Deer Isle, Brad Frazier’s unassisted goal during a goalmouth scramble with one minute left gave Searsport the win.

Joey Light had the other goal for 8-2-1 Searsport, and Nate Hall finished with 10 saves.

Ben Barrows scored with an assist from Chris Hutchinson for 5-5 Deer Isle-Stonington. Goalie Andy Bye made 13 stops.

Girls soccer

Houlton 1, Schenck 0

At Houlton, Amber Howe scored with 15:11 left in the second half as Houlton defeated previously unbeaten Schenck of East Millinocket.

Jessica Prosser stopped seven of the nine shots she faced for 5-6 Houlton.

Emily Davis made 12 saves on 18 shots for the Wolverines, now 7-1-1.

Nokomis 3, Brewer 1

At Newport, the Warriors received a first-half goal from Heidi Roach and second-half goals from Katie Page and Kim Pushor en route to their third win against six defeats. It was Nokomis’ second win over Brewer this season.

Sarah Frey had an assist for 3-4-1 Nokomis, and goalie Tonya Cray rejected 12 of 17 shots.

Leslie Trott scored for Brewer off a Becca Smith assist, and goalkeeper Heidi Everett made 16 saves on 37 shots.

Field hockey

Nokomis 2, Foxcroft 0

At Dover-Foxcroft, Jillian Oliver stopped all 15 shots she faced as Nokomis of Newport shut out Foxcroft.

Andrea Pelkey opened the scoring with 27 minutes left in the first half for 6-3 Nokomis. Amanda Perry added a goal in the second half.

Beth Lewis made three saves on six shots for the Ponies, now 8-3.

Old Town 1, Brewer 0

At Old Town, Lisa Dyment scored with nine minutes left in the first half as the Indians picked up the win.

Audrey Brissette stopped all seven shots she faced for 6-4 Old Town.

Jenn Coutts made six saves on seven shots for Brewer, now 0-9.
