Wildcats’ Brooks scores two in 5-0 win

PRESQUE ISLE – Jeremy Brooks scored two goals to lead the Wildcats to a 5-0 schoolboy soccer win Saturday.

Joel Duncan scored a goal and added an assist for 8-3 Presque Isle. Mike Chasse and Jared Keegan scored unassisted goals. John Blanchard had an assist. Gene Cronin made seven saves on eight shots.

Mike Arsenault stopped seven of 19 shots for Bangor, now 2-5-1.

Calais 2, Fort Kent 1

At Calais, Ryan Fox scored the game-winner with 36:28 left in the second half off a pass from Derek LeConte Saturday.

Kevin Taylor scored off an assist from LeConte for 5-4 Calais. Jason Gookin made eight saves on 10 shots.

Jon Lozier cut the lead to 2-1 with a second-half goal off a pass from Seth Lovely with 8:45 left. Ben Raymond saved 10 of 12 shots for 3-5-1 Fort Kent.

Caribou 4, Brewer 2

At Caribou, Aaron Wyman netted three goals to lead 7-2-1 Caribou Saturday.

Ryan Soucie scored a goal and an assist and Jay Plourde added two assists for the Vikings. Dan Funk and Mike Michaud combined to save nine of 14 shots. Jamie Bell had an assist.

Jamie Lambert and Mark Blaine each netted a goal for 1-8 Brewer. Lambert and Javier Salinas each added an assist to the effort. Tim Miller recorded six saves on 16 shots.

Shead 6, Washington Acad. 1

At East Machias, Ricky Cox scored two first-half goals to spark Shead of Eastport to victory.

Shawn Small and Joey Wentworth scored in the first half for the 5-4 Tigers, with Jesse McPhail and Jason Smith netting second-half goals. Erwith Jesse McPhail and Jason Smith netting second-half goals. Eric Ritchie notched two assists. Clifford Urquhart made nine saves on 10 shots.

For 3-6 Washington Academy, Ben Brake scored on a Bill Guptill assist. Jason Ramsdell registered eight saves on 14 shots.

J-Beals 3, DI-Stonington 1

At Jonesport-Beals, Ira Kelley netted two goals to lead 4-6 Jonesport-Beals Saturday.

Glenn Libby netted a goal and Josh Knowlton and Heath Urquhart each added an assist for the winners. Mike Leward saved eight of 12 shots.

Corey Eaton netted a goal and Andy Bye made eight saves on 14 shots for 5-6 Deer Isle-Stonington.

Bangor Christian 6, East Grand 1

At East Grand, Nate Conolley scored two goals and assisted on another as the Patriots thumped East Grand.

Al Griffin contributed a goal and two assists for 6-3-1 Bangor Christian. Chip Foss, Justin McKenna and Joe Craig had a goal apiece. Josh Ouellette stopped nine of 10 shots.

Tim Irish scored a goal for 2-5-1 East Grand. He was assisted by Joe Davis. Andrew Faulkner made 14 saves on 20 shots.

Piscataquis 3, Dexter 0

At Guilford, David Emrich scored two goals to lead 6-1-3 Piscataquis Community Saturday.

Chris Conner netted an early goal and John Riitano saved six of 10 shots for the Pirates. Donny Farmer and George Miles each had an assist.

Ryan Robichaud made 13 saves on 26 shots for 3-7-1 Dexter.

PVHS 5, Penquis Valley 0

At Howland, Seth Colbath scored three goals to lead 4-2-3 Penquis Valley.

Nathan Cyr opened the scoring in the game off an assist from Lucas McCannell with 21:36 left in the first. Martin Leonhardt added an insurance goal off a pass from Bob Pelkey with 11:02 remaining in regulation. Leonhardt and Amos McCannell each had an assist. Matt Lindsay, Dave Stenzel and Erik Fogg combined to save two of four shots.

Tom Gillis made 18 saves on 39 shots for 1-6-1 Penquis Valley of Milo.

Hampden 4, MDI 3

At Hampden, Jeff Meinhart scored two goals to lead 10-1 Hampden Saturday night.

Max Brooks and Scott Tardiff each scored a goal and an assist for the winners. Gabe Brooks added two assists to the effort. Noah Peet and Josh Quint combined to save four of six shots.

Travis Walls, Eric Luhrs and Travis Jones each netted a goal for 4-5-2 Mount Desert Island. Mike Garrity made five saves on 17 shots.

Orono 1, John Bapst 0

At Orono, Daryl Watson netted the game-winner off an assist from Tom Hite eight minutes into the game Saturday.

Gary Mehuren saved all eight shots he faced for 6-2-1 Orono.

Brage Wik made five saves on six shots for 3-6 John Bapst.

Girls soccer

Bangor 4, Presque Isle 2

At Presque Isle, Melissa Achorn registered a pair of goals as the Rams improved to 8-2.

Bethany Bosley tallied a goal and an assist for Bangor. Jamie Wells had two assists. Kori Dionne scored a goal and Jlynn Frazier added an assist. Anne Wright made three saves on six shots.

Jamie Madore and Katie Peers scored unassisted goals for 5-4-2 Presque Isle. Jen Hallett stopped five of 13 shots.

Calais 1, Fort Kent 1 (2OT)

At Calais, Lindsay Pelletier scored at 24:33 of the second half to tie the game for Fort Kent and help the Warriors earn the draw.

Pelletier’s goal was assisted by Jessica Gagnon for Fort Kent. Andrea Marquis made eight saves on 11 shots.

Elizabeth Churchill scored an unassisted goal for 3-4-1 Calais. Rachel Clark stopped 12 of 18 shots.

Bangor Christian 3, East Grand 2

At Danforth, Kathy Fortier scored the Patriots’ game-winner off an assist from Lindsey Dupere with 4:37 left in regulation.

Heidi Niles netted two goals and Sarah Stetson had an assist for 6-4 Bangor Christian. Stephanie Regan made eight saves on 13 shots.

Tara Cropley scored two goals and Megan Amero added an assist for 1-4-1 East Grand of Danforth. Lindsay Faulkner saved 13 of 29 shots.

Greenville 1, DI-Stonington 0

At Greenville, Lori Dyer scored the lone goal of the game 12 minutes into the first half.

Sara Ward saved six of seven shots for 5-3-2 Greenville.

Monica Larrabee made nine saves on 16 shots for 2-8 Deer Isle-Stonington.

Lee 6, Sumner 3

At Lee, Katie Cormier scored five goals and one assist to lead 6-5 Lee Academy Saturday.

Leann Rideout had an assist and Torie Nute made two saves on seven shots for the Pandas.

Toran Willey, Megan Lane and Katie Brunton each scored a goal for 2-9 Sumner. Marita Buteau saved 16 of 33 shots.

PVHS 4, Penquis Valley 1

At Howland, Ashlee Smith scored a goal and an assist to lead 6-3-2 Penobscot Valley Saturday.

Mitchelle Doyon, Rachael Dawson and Bianca Colbath each scored goals for the Howlers. Jennie Neal saved 10 of 11 shots.

Lillian Gerrish made 22 saves on 26 shots and Ann Laux scored a goal for 2-6 Penquis Valley of Milo.

Monmouth 6, Rangeley 1

At Monmouth, Lizzy Thibodeau scored three times as Monmouth defeated Rangeley.

Thibodeau scored all of her goals in the second half for 9-1 Monmouth. Angela Rioux scored two goals and assisted on another. Sarah Baran also scored and had an assist. Jamie Martin-McNaughton had two assists and Missy Jones also assisted on a goal.

Keepers Laurel Poole and Kate Chuprevich combined to save five of seven shots.

Emilie Nichols converted a Sarah Egerhei pass for a goal for 2-7 Rangeley. Adrian Goodwin made 33 saves on 51 shots.

Bucksport 1, George Stevens 1 (2OT)

At Bucksport, Angela Gray scored the game-tying goal for 3-4-2 George Stevens with 24:42 left in regulation.

Dawn Robertson saved nine of 11 shots for the Eagles.

Cara Henderson gave 5-2-2 Bucksport a 1-0 lead off an assist from Jessica Gordon with 8:03 remaining in the first half. Kelly Downes made 10 saves on 20 shots.

Orono 3, John Bapst 2

At Orono, Sarah Marquex netted the game-winner off an assist from Mindy Lane with 6:21 left in regulation.

Lane scored to make it 1-0 for Orono off an assist from Katie Libby 4:25 into the game. Sarah Benjamin added a goal with 32:57 left in the second period. Meghann Taylor saved five of 11 shots.

Kristi Millard and Heather Evans each scored a goals for 4-5-1 John Bapst. Kristen Sekera made 11 saves off 23 shots.

Field hockey

Dexter 3, Central 0

At East Corinth, Sarah Clukey scored two goals in the second half as Dexter overcame Central.

Megan Titus scored on a penalty shot and added an assist for the 7-2 Tigers. Beth McCusick had an assist. Christina Dorman stopped all six shots she faced.

Jenn Greatorex stopped 14 of 17 shots for the 6-3 Red Devils.

PCHS 4, Mattanawcook 1

At Guilford, Erin Smith and Darby Smiley each scored two goals and had two assists as the Pirates remained 11-0.

Miranda Durant and Sacha Jackson added assists for 11-0 PCHS. Jana Watson made three saves on four shots.

Jen Comeau scored an unassisted goal for 3-7 Mattanawcook Academy. Tracie Pickering stopped seven of 11 shots.

At Castine, Liz Kelley scored a goal and two assists to lead 9-2 Belfast Saturday.

Ashley Randlett and Tanya Flood added goals for the winners. Linda Littlefield had an assist and Katie Small saved all seven shots she faced in recording her seventh shutout of the season.

Alisa Smith and Eliza Mitchell made seven saves on 10 shots for 4-5-1 Camden-Rockport.

Bangor 1, Orono 0

At Orono, Emily Nabozny scored the game-winner 15 minutes into the first half Saturday.

Juliette Malmstrom made 14 saves on 17 shots for 2-8 Bangor.

Jenn Brooks saved four of six shots for 3-7 Orono.

Hampden 2, Hermon 0

At Hermon, Rebecca Dickinson scored the game winner with 16:21 remaining in the game as the Broncos downed the Hawks.

Kelly Wellman also scored a goal for 5-4 Hampden. Jessica Sturdee had an assist. Heather Kinsella stopped both shots she faced.

Jean Nelson made three saves on five shots for Hermon, which fell to 2-9.
