Higgins sparks Eagles

ELLSWORTH – Darby Higgins scored two second-half goals to power the undefeated Ellsworth Eagles to a 3-1 schoolboy soccer victory over the Orono Red Riots Monday night.

Higgins scored off assists from Mike Hangge and Graham Macbeth, respectively. Jamie Maleck had a goal and Ryan Conley saved five of eight shots for 9-0 Ellsworth.

Chris Lapointe scored a goal for 6-3-1 Orono and Gary Mehuren made 14 saves against 18 shots.

PCHS 3, Searsport 1

At Guilford, Trey Gilbert netted the game-winner with his second goal of the game off an assist from Kyle Harrington with 26:52 left.

Chris Conner assisted on Gilbert’s first goal for the 7-3-1 winners. Scott Decastro added an insurance goal and goalie John Riitano made seven saves on 14 shots.

Steve Saucier scored unassisted for 7-3-1 Searsport and Nate Hall made nine saves on 20 shots.

MCI 3, Mount View 2

At Thorndike, Khano Smith scored the game-winning goal with one second left in regulation for Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.

Jeff Giallombardo scored for 8-2-1 MCI off an assist from Mike Thompson. Thompson added a goal off a pass from Josh Lambert. Sean Souza made seven saves off 12 shots.

Pete Taliaferro and Jake Doan each scored a goal for 0-10-1 Mount View. Jake Von Oesen saved four of 18 shots.

JV: MCI 4, Mount View 1

Old Town 1, Nokomis 1 (2OT)

At Newport, Shawn Henderson scored the tying goal for 1-8-2 Nokomis off an assist from Dave Richards with 1:15 left.

Nick Wallace made five saves off six shots for the Warriors.

Eric Stoop scored off a pass from Dave May with 10:35 left in the second half for 2-6-1 Old Town and goalie John Graves stopped 10 of 28 shots.

Central 2, DI-Stonington 1

At East Corinth, Matt Koswell netted the game-winner off an assist from Andy Matulis with 6:26 left in regulation.

Ryan Rivera scored a second-half goal for 4-5-1 Central off a pass from Andy Koncinsky and goalie Rob Reynold saved six of 14 shots.

Chris Hutchinson scored a goal and Andy Bye made three saves off 11 shots for 5-6 Deer Isle-Stonington.

Foxcroft Academy 7, Hermon 2

At Hermon, David Speed scored three goals to lead 7-2-1 Foxcroft.

John Brennan scored two goals and Seth Kimball had two assists for the winners. Julian Campbell and Justin Clawson each added a goal to the effort. Andy Hunt stopped 15 of 18 shots.

Ryan Scripture and Eion Pelletier each had a goal for 2-7-1 Hermon. Jeff Whitehouse made 15 saves off 28 shots.

Girls soccer

Foxcroft 6, Central 1

At Dover-Foxcroft, Laurie Lavoie and Nelly Campbell each scored two goals.

Sandy Beaulieu and Adrienne Smith had the other goals for 4-6 Foxcroft with Lavoie, Smith and Ronia Laita each notching an assist. Goalie Sherrie Zimmerman made four saves on eight shots.

Steph Partridge scored off a Katrina Huntley assist for 0-10 Central of East Corinth and Jen Allen rejected 22 of 42 shots.

MDI 2, Orono 1

At Orono, Maiya Kaldro netted the game-winner off an assist from Emily Henry in the first half.

Kelly Reed scored the first goal of the game and Lacy Richards saved seven of 12 shots for 9-2 Mount Desert Island.

Kim Craine scored a goal for 4-5-1 Orono and Meghann Taylor made six saves on 15 shots.

Field hockey

John Bapst 3, Stearns 0

At Millinocket, Sophia Rogall, Erin Young and Kira Young each scored a goal to lead John Bapst.

Stephanie Philbrick made seven saves for the 9-2 winnners.

Andrea Marquis saved six of nine shots for 2-9 Stearns.

Hampden 2, Brewer 0

At Hampden, Alicia Estey had one goal and one assist. Estey scored her goal off a pass from Jenny Nelson and assisted on Linda Cianchette’s score.

For 6-4 Hampden, Heather Kinsella saved six of 10 shots. Jenny Coutts made eight saves on 10 shots for 0-10 Brewer.

Orono 1, Old Town 0

At Old Town, Alisa Reed scored the only goal with 11:44 left in the game for the Red Riots’ win.

Keeper Jenn Brooks saved 17 shots for 4-7 Orono. For 6-5 Old Town, Audrey Brissette saved 18 of 19 shots on goal.

Nokomis 2, Central 1 (2OT)

At East Corinth, Liz Mandell scored the game-winning goal, an unassisted shot in the second overtime for the Warriors’ victory.

Mandell also scored with 10:59 left in the first half. Central’s Missy Krawczyk tied the game with 10 seconds left in regulation off an assist from Jess Moody.

Jillian Oliver saved eight of nine shots for 7-3 Nokomis. For 6-4 Central, Jen Greatorex had 14 saves on 20 shots.
