A 19-year-old Millinocket man who claimed he was robbed at knifepoint while working at a Millinocket video store earlier this week has been charged with the theft himself.
Police arrested Dale Boyington at 5:10 p.m. Friday while he was working at the Front Row Video store, where on Sunday Boyington said he had been robbed while working alone.
Millinocket police also have charged Boyington with filing a false public report. Officer Jerry Cox said the investigation is ongoing and that others may be charged.
Boyington remained in Penobscot County Jail Friday evening. He was indicted earlier this month by a Penobscot County grand jury for burglary, aggravated criminal mischief and theft.
On Sunday Boyington called police shortly after 10 p.m. and reported that someone had come into the store. Wielding a “Rambo” knife, the man had asked for all the money, he said.
Boyington said he gave the man the undisclosed amount of money and the robber left, driving off in a dark-colored pickup truck headed for East Millinocket. Boyington had described the robber as having American Indian features.
Cox said the store has requested that police not disclose how much money was taken.
