AUGUSTA — The Maine Municipal Association has presented the town of Levant with its 1997 Great Idea Award for the election and town meeting issue of its municipal newsletter.

Derik Goodine, town manager, accepted the award from Michael Roy, MMA president, at the group’s annual convention Oct. 8.

Levant’s pre-town meeting issue gave residents information on candidates for the Board of Selectmen and the SAD 23 board of directors, profiling each and presenting campaign statements.

Goodine said the newsletter made a difference in getting people to attend the town meeting. “We had the best turnout at town meeting in over six years,” he said. “The newsletter helped spread the word and provided straightforward information on spending issues.”
