Coach’s comment: “Cindy has totally evolved as the complete player, whether it’s playing defense or running the show from the point guard spot or hitting the 3-. She handles the scoring pressure with ease.”

Klara Danes, No. 10

Career highlights: career-high 20 points and 10 rebounds against Delaware, Feb. 13, 1997

Coach’s comment: “Klara is extremely ver- satile, in the best condition of her career, and playing without pain. She knows the defenses and she shows tremendous hustle, and to top it off, she’s got a calm, relaxed attitude about her offense. And she’s physically strong.”

Sandi Carver, No. 22

Career highlights: Started 56 of last 62 games; named to America East All-Tournament Team in 1997; honored as National Strength and

Conditioning Association All-American in 1997

Career averages: 4.3 points, 2.8 rebounds

Coach’s comment: “She’s such a team play- er, almost to a fault. She needs a little bit of an attitude about who she is as a player and what she can do for the team. There’s no question about her work ethic and her desire.”

Jamie Cassidy, No. 24

Career highlights: 1997 America East Rook- ie of the Year; America East All-Tourney Team

Coach’s comment: “She’s very talented of- fensively with multiple moves and tremendous confidence. Her challenge has been to also in- clude defense in that. She’s definitely a potential All-American candidate. She is one of the best post players in the East, period.”

Amy Vachon, No. 20

Coach’s comment: “Amy can do so many things: her passing ability, her defense, hitting the outside shot. She’s got tremendous versatili- ty. She is fast and quick with the ball. She is a remarkable court presence.”

Andrea Clark, No. 50

Career highlights: appeared in 29 games during 1996-97 season

Career averages: 1.2 points, 1.6 rebounds

Coach’s comment: “She’s so physically strong and ready. She’s truly one of the leaders on our team in terms of conditioning and her work ethic. She is so ready to go to her strengths of rebounding and passing, how she sees the floor.”

Personal: Food science and nutrition major

Martina Tinklova, No. 25

Vital stats: Forward, freshman, 6-4; Olomonc, Czech Republic

Career highlights: played on Czech Republic Junior National Team that placed sixth at World Championships last summer

Coach’s comment: “She has a very high skill level. She has 3-point shooting ability and foot quickness and passing like our guards. The big question is how tough can she be . I think the big thing with Martina is tremendous timing and a sense of the game.”

Personal: Daughter of Milana and Jiril Tinklova

Chantal Macream, No. 3

Vital stats: Guard, freshman, 5-6; Pierrefords, Quebec

Career highlights: won Best Defensive Play- er and Sportsmanship awards at Vanier College last season

Coach’s comment: “She is so intense, so focused, so willing… a great leader. She’s a defensive specialist, a heady player, and knows the offenses already. She’ll be such a sparkplug off the bench. She’s a breath of fresh air.”

Personal: Psychology major; was her high school’s valedictorian

Katie Clark, No. 5

Vital stats: Forward, sophomore, 6-0; Ban- gor, Maine

Career highlights: Appeared in 21 games as a freshman despite injuries

Career averages: 5.1 points, 2.0 rebounds

Coach’s comment: “Her shot is much im- proved because she couldn’t do anything else . I can’t wait to add her overall intensity to the team. We’re just very excited that she’s persevered in the face of adversity.”

Personal: History major; brother, Nat, plays on UMaine football team

Kelly Dow, No. 33

Vital stats: Guard, freshman, 5-7; Sebec Vil- lage, Maine

Career highlights: named to Bangor Daily News All-Maine Third Team and was Penobscot Valley Conference Player of the Year last sea- son at Foxcroft Academy

Coach’s comment: “She’s a walk-on. She’s a great person, very positive, but I’m not in a position to evaluate her right now.”

Personal: Nursing major; all-state field hock- ey player and softball captain

Kristen McCormick, No. 4

Vital stats: Guard, sophomore, 5-10; Med- ford, Mass.

Career highlights: played in all 30 games as a freshman, starting 16; scored career-high 16 points Jan. 4 against Boston University

Coach’s comment: “I’ve challenged her to get in the best shape she can so that when she’s cleared by the doctor, she can join us. She has excellent 3-point shooting ability and savvy. I think she knows the game and she’s intense.”

Personal: Elementary education major; missed most of last season with a knee injury; now sidelined with a stress fracture

Jessica Lawson, No. 13

Vital stats: Forward, freshman, 6-2; Aylmer, Quebec

Career highlights: helped lead John Abbott to the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association national title last season

Coach’s comment: “Jess does have intensity on defense, can rebound the basketball well, and is an excellent scorer from about 15 feet in. She’s going to be a fabulous addition to this team at a neat time, end of December, early January, .”

Personal: Business major; sister of former Vermont standout Alex Lawson

Kizzy Lopez, No. 21

Vital stats: Guard, freshman, 5-10; Hemming- ford, Quebec

Career highlights: led Chateau Guay Valley HS to provincial championship; named MVP in every tournament she played in during 1996-97

Coach’s comment: “Kizzy is a tremendously talented player. She can shoot the `3,’ she can penetrate, she is very strong. She can play this game. She’s just got to develop total intensity and improve her conditioning. She continues to work extremely hard.”

Personal: Undecided major; also excelled in field hockey and track
