MAINE vs. BOWDOIN
Time, site: Wednesday, 7 p.m.; Dayton Arena, Brunswick
Records: Maine 1-1-1 (0-1-1 ECAC Alliance), Bowdoin 0-3-0 (0-2-0)
Key players: Maine – F Alison Lorenz (4 goals, 2 assists), F Jamie Schofield (1 & 3), F Alicia Gilmore (1 & 1), D Christina Hedges (1 & 0), G Amy Oliver (1-1-1, 4.14 goals-against average, .897 save percentage); Bowdoin – F Kacy White (1 & 1), F Amy Steel (1 & 1), Caroline Chapin (1 & 0), D Rita Callahan (0 & 1), G Kate Connelly (0-3-0, 5.60, .848)
Outlook: Bowdoin was the ECAC Alliance runner-up last year, but is off to a slow start, averaging 1.6 goals per game and managing only a 14-percent efficiency on the power play. Maine is averaging 2.3 gpg, but is 0-for-10 on the power play. The fourth game for each team may prove a close battle. Each fell to defending league champion Middlebury 9-1. What could give Maine an edge is Lorenz, who leads both teams this season with six points. The game is the first of three the Bears will play in the next five days. A win would set them up well to end the first half of their season with a winning record. After Maine travels to Williams College on Sunday, the Black Bears will take a break until Jan. 17 when it returns to Alfond Arena.
