WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The University of Maine women’s hockey team scored four unanswered goals to beat Williams College 4-1 here Sunday.

Stephanie Gabriele and Christina Hedges each scored a goal and an assist. Alison Lorenz and Jamie Schofield each added a goal. Alicia Gilmore and Alana Ahearn each had an assist.

For the first time this season, the Williams women’s hockey team scored before their opponents did. Cara Shortsleeve put Williams on the board five minutes into the second period.

The Ephs came out firing in the first period amassing 25 shots, but they were held scoreless in the first period by Maine goalie Amy Oliver who totalled 40 saves on 41 shots in the game. Her counterpart, Kate Niederhoffer made 23 saves on 27 shots for Williams.

At Machias, the Monks held the Clippers to only 19 first-half points as St. Joseph’s of Standish improved to 4-2.

Kristen Chavarie and Sarah Beane led the Monks with 11 points apiece.

Lori Morrow led all scorers with 14 points for 5-4 University of Maine at Machias.

UMPI splits weekend games

At Presque Isle, the University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls played a pair of games over the weekend, taking a loss on Saturday and winning on Sunday.

In Saturday’s game, St. Joseph’s College jumped out to an early 10-2 lead and never looked back as the Monks took the 53-45 win over the Owls.

Sara Beane led St. Joseph’s with 14 points.

Kim Chatman scored a game-high 22 points for the Owls.

In Sunday’s game, the Owls erased a 20-point second half defecit over the final 10 minutes of the game, beating the University of New England 76-74.

Huff led the way for UMPI with 23 points and 12 rebounds.

Wendy Atwood led the Nor’Easters with 20 points. Anna Staehli netted 12 points and Michelle Plant and Lori Conti scored 10 apiece.
