I cannot believe Alberta Owens (BDN letter, Nov. 18) would take away a child’s biggest joy at Christmas.
Has she ever seen Christmas through the eyes of a child or witnessed the awe and thrill for a child to be in the presence of Santa Claus? I have, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. There are few things in life that bring total joy, and Santa is one of the precious memories of childhood.
No one in his or her right mind would think that Santa was more important than the birth of Jesus. Or take away the sanctity of the season.
We are taught from childhood that Baby Jesus was born at Christmas and was to be adored and honore. Maybe Alberta was not as fortunate as many of us to be taught where fantasy ends and truth begins. Jane M. Morin Hamlin
