STOWE — Two hikers were reported safe Monday after spending an unplanned night in Evans Notch.
Authorities said Glen Vaillancourt, 35, of Saco, and Norman Houle, 44, of Biddeford, walked down the mountain early Monday morning.
A relative of one of the men reported them missing Sunday after they failed to return from a snowboarding trip.
Maine Warden Service spokesman V. Paul Reynolds said three wardens and a helicopter searched for the men Sunday night. Authorities had planned to expand the search Monday.
Reynolds said wardens are not sure why the men failed to return on time. He said Vaillancourt and Houle came down the mountain and left without talking to authorities.
