Teen struck by car in Orrington> 15-year-old hit while in-line skating is in critical condition at EMMC

Frank Merrill, 15, of Orrington suffered serious injuries Sunday afternoon when he was struck by a car on Dow Road in Orrington about a half-mile off Snows Corner Road. According to Penobscot County Deputy Sheriff Jon Carson, Merrill was undergoing surgery Sunday night for a head wound. According to a nursing supervisor at Eastern Maine Medical Center, the boy was in critical condition late Sunday.

Green said the boy was found lying on the ground. He apparently had been hit by a red Chevrolet Corsica, driven by Kelly Roberts, 28, of Orrington.

Merrill had been in-line skating on the highway, wearing dark clothing and Roberts said she never saw him.

Carson said Roberts had thought she had hit a deer until she got out of her car and saw Merrill on the ground. Carson said Roberts was shaken up and very upset.

The passenger side of the windshield of Roberts’ car was shattered around a large hole in the glass. —-

A Hampden woman was arrested early Sunday morning in front of a Bangor motel, charged with operating under the influence, operating after license suspension, and possession of a concealed weapon.

Brenda Worcester of Main Road was stopped by a Penobscot County sheriff’s Deputy John Skroski, who said Worcester also had been arrested for OUI in 1995. Her license was suspended at the time and has never been restored.

Skroski also said Worcester had in her possession a 2-inch triangular knife. He described it as “the kind you put between your knuckles” during a fight.

Worcester was taken to Penobscot County Jail. Bail was set at $500, but she remained in police custody Sunday afternoon.

Marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in a Carmel man’s car when he was stopped by police early Saturday morning.

Jeffrey Damboise, 35, was driving on Harlow Street about 12:30 a.m. when Bangor police Officer Dan Herrick pulled him over because Damboise’s car lights were not on.

According to police reports, when Damboise reached into his glove box for his license and registration, Herrick’s partner, Chris Desmond, noticed a “small, 3-inch copper pipe, commonly used to smoke marijuana.” Desmond also saw a clear plastic bag containing what “resembled marijuana.”

When Desmond asked Damboise to hand him the items, Damboise reportedly said, “It’s just a little pot.”

Damboise was issued two summonses, one for possession of a usable amount of marijuana and a second for possession of drug paraphernalia.

A 66-year-old Brewer woman reported Saturday evening that she was assaulted in the parking lot of the Rite Aid drugstore in Twin City Plaza.

According to Brewer police, the woman had noticed a teen leaning against a columm in the parking lot when she arrived at the store.

She told police that she heard someone behind her as she walked toward her car after she finished shopping. Her assailant allegedly grabbed her purse and, after a brief struggle, finally tugged so hard the purse’s strap broke. He then took off running behind the shopping center.

The purse contained about $150 in cash and some credit cards. The woman complained of shoulder pain after the assault.

The suspect is described as a dark-haired, clean-shaven male, about 17 years old, about 5 feet 11 inches tall with a thin build.

Brewer police called in the K-9 unit from Bangor but turned up nothing.

A Bangor woman was charged with criminal threatening Saturday morning after she allegedly brandished a butcher knife before her husband.

According to police reports, the couple began arguing Friday night over the quality of the diamond jewelry he gave her for Christmas. The feud continued in the morning when she accused him of having an affair two years earlier. The argument escalated until the woman, who told police she “lost control,” pulled out a butcher knife and waved it in the direction of her husband, who was sitting at the dining room table. She then drove the blade through a plastic vitamin container sitting on the table.

The husband called police.

A call came in to Bangor police late Saturday night that a man was being assaulted in the Mobil 3G Food Mart on Main Street.

When Officers Chris Morley and James Dearing arrived at the scene they found the victim “shaken up.” A store employee told police that two men had walked into the store and approached the victim, a 37-year-old Bangor man, and taunted and harassed him. One of the men then allegedly threw the victim into a shelf, knocking him to the floor.

Both suspects fled the scene before police arrived. The victim told police he had never seen his alleged attackers before.

The victim suffered a cut on the head, but refused medical treatment.

The incident remains under investigation.
