None hurt as fire destroys residence in Winterport

WINTERPORT — A single-family residence was destroyed by fire Saturday night at the intersection of Goshen Road and Kendall Road in Winterport, Fire Chief Stan Bowden said. The home was heated but unoccupied.

Firefighters from Winterport, Hampden, Frankfort, West Frankfort and Stockton Springs worked the scene for five hours after responding to the first call just before 6 p.m. The blaze was brought under control after two hours of work, Bowden said.

Travel to the fire location was hazardous because of fallen limbs and electrical wires, but no one was hurt in the effort, he said. The cause of the fire is unknown, and though no foul play is suspected, the state Fire Marshal’s Office will be called in to investigate, Bowden said.
