Outlook: The Bears seek their fourth straight win without Cindy Blodgett. Sophomore Katie Clark will sit out for second consecutive game with a sore heel. Maine held off Hartford 63-57 Tuesday with a solid defensive effort. The 63 points were Maine’s lowest output since last season’s 70-58 loss at Hartford. Carver is averaging 17.5 points in the last two games. New Hampshire has exhibited offensive balance under first-year coach Sue Johnson. UNH is led by Farkas, who ranks fifth in the league in scoring and is shooting 59 percent from the floor. Rebounding and lack of a 3-point threat have hampered the ‘Cats. UNH is 1-4 at home, 1-2 at Whittemore.
MAINE men vs. NEW HAMPSHIRE
Time, site: Sunday, 1 p.m.; Alfond Arena, Orono
Records: Maine 4-10 (1-5 America East), UNH 7-8 (3-4)
Series: Maine leads 91-58
Key players: Maine – 6-1 G Fred Meeks (22.9 ppg), 6-1 G Marcus Wills (20.2 ppg), 6-6 C Allen Ledbetter (15.6 ppg, 11.6 rpg), 6-7 F Colin Haynes (6.1 ppg, 9.0 rpg), 5-11 G Dade Faison (4.2 ppg, 6.4 apg); New Hampshire – 6-8 F Matt Acres (13.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg), 6-2 G Carlos Bradberry (9.7 ppg), 6-11 C Ken Rassi (8.2 ppg, 7.1 rpg), 6-4 G Carmen Maciariello (7.5 ppg), 6-9 F Chris Hibbs (6.1 ppg).
Outlook: The Bears are hoping to snap a four-game losing streak in the 150th meeting against the Wildcats. Wills must get back on track if Maine is to beat New Hampshire. The junior scored only two points on 1-for-4 shooting and played 20 minutes in Tuesday’s setback at Hartford. Meeks and Wills are ranked 16th and 23rd, respectively, in the national scoring stats. The Wildcats could give Maine problems inside with a front line that averages better than 6-foot-9. Rassi is a former All-Maine selection for Bob Cimbollek at John Bapst High in Bangor. It is Acres who has led UNH in scoring the last three games. The Wildcats, who have limited opponents to 40 percent shooting, are 0-7 on the road this season. Maine is a bit thinner from this point on, as Mickey Fein has left the team.
