HAMPDEN – The 16-member Bangor varsity cheerleading squad won the Penobscot Valley Conference Class A championship Saturday.

The members of the team are Kristin Cole, Jenny Barry, Michelle Winchester, Jill Savage, Logan Svoboda, Jessica Tran, Jocelyn Pinkney, Katy Truscott, Jennifer Parker, Katie Vigue, Marianne Fortier, Jodie Harnisch, Dawn Miller, Lacey Bogan, Erin DePhilippo and Jessica Kandel.

Bangor also won the A-B combined competition.

Old Town’s squad won the Class B competition, garnering 69.75 points. The team members are Renea Anderson, Sara Avery, Staci Davis, Marie Dionne, Missy Dorr, Tara Drinkwater, Natasha Grenier, Kate Hogan, Candace Johnson, Danielle King, Shawna Moore, Stephanie Smalley, Jessica Stoup, Darcy Thibodeau and Michelle Dunn. The Indians were the first runner-up in the A-B combined contest.

The Class C-D competition went to Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln, which tallied 65.75 points. Squad members are Rachel Doan, Chris Gendreau, Elizabeth Kenney, Nicole McDonald, Sarah McLaughlin, Bobbi-Lyn Reed, Candace Sabol, Erin Scott, Taryn Turcotte, Kati Whitney and Laci Whitney.

Brewer finished in second place in the Class A contest. Bucksport was the Class B runner-up and Sumner of East Sullivan was second in the Class C-D competition.

Belfast 67, Wiscasset 34

At Wiscasset Saturday, Belfast jumped out to a 12-point lead after one quarter and maintained the double-digit advantage as the Lions defeated the Redskins.

Abby Peaslee led Belfast with 16 points. Amanda Brown had 11 points and Amy Flood added 10.

Kari Siviski topped Wiscasset with 12 points.
