BANGOR – Sunday Silence, a 7-year-old Silent Majority mare, owned by Milford Shaw of Bar Harbor, was the readers’ choice as the 1997 Bangor Daily News Harness Horse of the Year.

The award, selected in balloting of NEWS readers, was presented at Saturday’s annual winter meeting of the Down East Harness Horsemen’s Association winter meeting at Miller’s Restaurant.

Sunday Silence also won the BDN award in 1997. It was the first time in the 13-year history of the award that the same horse has won the BDN award twice.

Second place in the balloting went to Hare Rollers, a 3-year-old Maine Sire Stakes pacing filly, owned by Dick Hartley of Bangor. The third-place finisher was West Ridge Gossip, a 7-year-old Jelly Apple trotter, owned by C. Paul Mullen of Easton.
