Birt steal, layup sparks Schenck

GUILFORD – Kristen Birt stole the ball and scored on a layup with 14 seconds left to break a 40-40 tie and key Schenck High School to a 43-40 win over Dexter Monday.

Rachel Larlee had 13 points and Erin Johnston added 10 for the Wolverines of East Millinocket.

Megan Hughes scored the first eight points of the third quarter en route to 17 to lead the host Tigers, who hosted Schenck at Guilford because Dexter’s gym was deemed unsafe due to too much snow on the roof. Beth McKusick and Deirdre McCormick each grabbed eight rebounds.

At Old Town, senior center Andrea Pardilla broke a school single-game record by pouring in 35 points and she also broke the 1000-point mark in doing so to lead unbeaten Old Town to its ninth win.

Pardilla, who now has 1016 points, also pulled down 11 rebounds and blocked eight shots.

Her 35 points broke the previous mark of 34 set by Diana Perkins in 1978.

Jody Kenniston had 26 points for the winners, including 19 in the first half as the Indians built a comfortable 47-26 intermission lead.
