CORINNA — A decision is anticipated next week on the selection of a new town manager.

Selectmen are scheduled to meet Monday night for a second interview with a prime candidate, according to board Chairman Steve Buck.

“Obviously we’re very pleased with his resume. That’s why we’re having him back. He’s very personable and he has the background and experience we want,” Buck said when contacted Friday afternoon.

If the Monday night interview is “productive,” Buck said, the board hopes to have the new manager on board immediately.

Later Monday evening, the board will meet with engineers from Woodard and Curran Inc. of Bangor. According to Buck, the engineers are meeting with the board to discuss their experience in working on Superfund projects.

Last week, the board met with representatives of the Department of Environmental Protection who suggested the town consider applying to become a federally funded Superfund cleanup site to address the environmental damage and chemical residue left behind from years of woolen manufacturing in the community.

“If Corinna decides to apply or becomes a Superfund site, I’m looking for all the free advice we can get,” Buck said of Monday’s meeting with the engineering firm.

The Monday meeting is scheduled to conclude with work on the 1998 proposed municipal budget, a continuation of a meeting held earlier this week. At this week’s meeting, the board voted to approve a $67,000 settlement for personal property taxes from Finova Capital Corp., mortgage holder for the former Eastland Woolen Mill.
