Teen allegedly threatens to shoot father over $40

ELLSWORTH — Ellsworth police arrested a 16-year-old boy from Hancock for threatening to shoot his father if he didn’t give him $40.

About 11:40 a.m. Tuesday, the youth and a friend walked into the High Street business where his father worked, and demanded $40 for a trip to New Jersey.

“Dad wasn’t going to give him the money,” said acting Police Chief Lt. John DeLeo. “So the son told him he was going to shoot him if he didn’t give him the money.”

DeLeo said the father’s girlfriend ran to another store and called the police. Five officers went to the scene, although it turned out that the juvenile did not have a weapon.

Officer Jason Clarke encountered the two youths walking on Route 1, and reported that the son kicked Officer Dotty Small on the ankle before being handcuffed and taken to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department. He was already on probation, and his probation officer authorized that he be held at the county jail.
