A recent article (BDN, Feb. 26), “27-point SAT drop raises little alarm in SAD 22,” indicates that Superintendent Richard Lyons and the SAD 22 school board were “blamestorming” the results. Blamestorming, defined in another article on new language at the office, is the corporate ritual of sitting in a group discussing why a project failed or a deadline was missed. School officials all had reasons why the scores do not count and should be ignored.

Maybe people in academia hear so many excuses why homework is not done or why bad grades are not the fault of the students that they believe this is proper conduct for adults. When will they learn to take responsibility and correct the problem.

Why is it that if there is some improvement in a score these same folks are so quick to take credit, yet when there is a decline, it is not their fault? When will the leadership in SAD 22 learn to accept responsibility? I wonder if the $1.3 million budget increase for next year will solve this problem.

I think the public and students are being “Dilberted” — exploited or opposed by the boss. Richard G. Peer Hampden
